Hypnosis 101
To begin to understand what we are doing and which part of the mind is involved its important to understand that the mind is a whole made up of systems and parts. Just any other part of the body there are systems within each "organ" and subsytems within systems. We need not actually identify these parts other then to discribe there working.
We shall begin with the Druid Mind Model:
The Mind is made of 3 parts for our purposes. The first We will refere to as SCOUT:
SCOUT is the very oldest part of the eveolved modern brain. Scouts main purpose is to
survive. Thats the basics of it. SCOUT is ALWAYS monitoring all availiable input from
the sences. He is ultra-vigilent. When we were monkey like creatures out on some distant savanah SCOUT was a busy and vitle part of the mind. He kept us alert, and when we were sleeping he kept us from being a passing lions breakfast. Whats that rustling in the
grass? Why did the birds get quiet? Whats that smell? Get out of the way of that elephant!
So scout is all about survival.
Scout also has the ultimate over ride. If he sences something that makes him uncomfortable he can shut everything down. This is important.
Scout also can differentiate. By this I mean that SCOUT recognizes me from your mom. If
you have spent anytime online you will have noticed that even if someone changes their
screen name something about how they use words is familiar. SCOUT can do the same trick.
Hes very smart and it is difficult to miss lead. Scout is all about truth and trust. If he sences hes being lied to he is likely to simply shut everything down. For this reason a good hypnotist must develop trust and comfort with his subject. NOT every subject and Hypnotist "CLICK" and personalities are important. Remember that Hypnosis is a relationship not
unlike a Dr/Patiant or Significant other relationship. Scout also learns to anticipate.
Gradually coming to expect that a situation etc will follow a previous situation. For instance if it is common to be told to concentrate on a paticulir object, as an example a pen and normally in the course of events is that trance follows,Scout will begin to anticipate the trance when told to focus on the pen.
Its is also important you know that SCOUT has an attention span limit. Lets us suggest you are deep in trance, and being induced on line. The internet connection drops out.
Scout has an aproxamately 3 to 4 minute span where he will monitor input for the hypnotists voice.
First he simply Notices. Because we all have a different cadence to our speech he doesn't react. But as the time gets closer to his 3-4 minute reaction time, his focus switches to a more keen search for that input, and when the time limit is up he sends the "STARTLE" signal. Ie.."Hey somethings up, wake up and check it out" and you would wake.
SO that's SCOUT.
Now we will talk about CHAMP: Champ is what we refer to as the conscious mind. The YOU you think you are. Champ believes hes LARGE and In charge. That he's in there controling the show and that it is always all about him. For the purposes of hypnosis we leave him with his delusion. Champ is the repository for all our "RULES". Our learned social norms. Think of Champ as a sort of county clerk, before you could build a house, you"d need to have a licensce from him, and a list of rules etc. He controls much of our actions day to day.
Champ helps us function in society within the boundries.
Here"s where it becomes interesting.....
********SPORT**************
SPORT: is the subconscious mind. In general it is SPORT with whom the hypnotist works.
This is because SPORT has several "TRAITS" that make sport the perfect particiapant.
First SPORT is very bright and loves to learn new things, Second SPORT is a people pleaser,
Thirdly SPORT is extreamly honest, not based in morality, but as an innocent the concept
of a lie is completely foreign to him. He would see no reason to them and they would simply confuse him. Fourthly, SPORT really enjoys praise. and finnally, SPORT has very little concept of danger, remember he has SCOUT monitoring to deal with that, life is about fun for SPORT, hes the adventurous sort and loves stimulation. These 5 traits make sport the perfect candidate for hypnosis. Think of SPORT as a young boy doing a handstand on his bicycle handlebars yelling, HEY LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!!
*****************Here I will place a WARNING:****************************
If you ever find that you feel uncomfortable with a particulair hypnotist. He refuses to explain what he is doing. You find yourself in situations you think of as dangerous etc, I urge you to simply discontinue working with the hypnotist. There is currently no organiation that oversees "Hobbie Hypnotists" with any legitamte power so this is a case of let the buyer (YOU the subject) beware. While many hypnotists have spent alot of time learning the skill theres a lot of heavy ham handed dalliers out there. Do your homework. Ask if you can watch a session, chat with a hypnotists previous subjects. Discuss what you expect to get out of this and any specific red lines. Then when your comfortable go for it and enjoy.
